One more canyon down before the snow flies!

This weekend we went on down to Zion and tried out Engelsted canyon. I have to say this was one of my favorites of the year. You hike down a dry river bed and boom, there it is. A 300 foot drop straight into the canyon. One rappel right after another for the first 1/2 mile and then some down climbing, and more rappels. At the intersection of Orderville canyon we hiked back up the Orderville canyon to the mouth and out. The hike started out at about 21 degrees that morning and ended up about 42 degrees when we exited. Turned out to be great weather for the trip. 3 of us did this trip with a total time from start to finish of 4 hours. Normally with a small group I would say turnaround time would be closer to 5 hours. All the books and info we read were pretty vague on finding the start of Engelsted and it did take some time to figure out where to start but once we did there was no mistaking that we had found the right one.

Highly recommended for those who are prepared and have the correct info and gear.
